Building Hope, Empowering Lives: My Journey with Sao Sary Foundation

When I founded the Sao Sary Foundation (SSF) in 2006, it wasn’t just about creating an organization—it was about honoring a lifelong responsibility. A responsibility to the children I saw growing up in destitution, to communities cast into the shadows of Cambodia’s rapid development, and to the belief that real change starts with us.

Almost two decades later, that responsibility has grown into a mission that stretches across provinces, uplifts thousands, and inspires action—despite the turbulent tides of global challenges. In a world reeling from crises, SSF continues to stand as a beacon of resilience, powered by compassion and action.

Humble Beginnings, Enduring Commitment

Back in 2006, we had very little—no formal office, limited resources, and no guarantees. But what we did have was unwavering resolve: to protect children from exploitation and open pathways to education, healthcare, and opportunity.

Kampong Speu was our starting point, where we witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of systemic neglect. With community trust and deep conviction, we built from the ground up—listening, responding, and never walking away.

Today, SSF has evolved into a national model for sustainable humanitarian innovation, balancing grassroots understanding with strategic execution.

2024 in Review: Progress Amidst Adversity

Despite global instability, 2024 was one of our most impactful years yet. From launching educational access initiatives to modernizing rural healthcare systems, SSF proved that targeted local action still has the power to move mountains.

In Koh Kong Province, in partnership with Ark Electronics, we supported one of the region’s most underserved schools:

  • 339 school uniforms helped restore dignity and equality in the classroom

  • 113 bicycles eliminated the daily barrier of distance

  • 113 complete stationery sets empowered students to learn with confidence

  • 2 laptops and a printer modernized school administration for long-term efficiency

These gifts may appear simple—but to these children, they symbolize hope, opportunity, and a future within reach.

Healthcare That Sustains and Transforms

This year also marked our deepened investment in rural healthcare modernization. At Ampov Prey Health Center, which serves thousands of villagers monthly, SSF deployed a suite of life-saving upgrades:

  • A hybrid renewable energy system to deliver uninterrupted clean power

  • A B-ultrasound machine enabling precision diagnostics

  • An oxygen generator, emergency stretchers, and a 150L autoclave to raise patient safety standards

  • 720 calcium milk cookies to fight malnutrition

  • And modern IT support to streamline record-keeping and patient management

This isn’t just equipment. It’s the infrastructure for well-being—ensuring that vulnerable families receive the care and dignity they deserve.

Advancing Impact Through Strategic Coordination

In a bold push for efficiency, SSF also equipped high-ranking coordination teams with 14 iPhone 16 devices. These tools now allow for:

  • Seamless cross-agency communication

  • Real-time monitoring of programs across sectors

  • Faster mobilization in response to urgent community needs

The result? Better-targeted aid, faster interventions, and heightened transparency in every mission we carry out.

Funding the Future: A Commitment to 2034

2024 will be remembered not only for our hands-on projects, but for securing a visionary decade-long financial pledgethat ensures continuity through 2034.

This includes:

  • $100,000 annually for five years to strengthen SSF’s healthcare programs, from medical technology integration to renewable energy solutions in health centers

  • Another $100,000 annually for five years to expand SSF’s education initiatives, including scholarships, vocational training, and infrastructure development

  • International scholarships and internship opportunities for Cambodian students—offered by global partners who believe in investing in human potential

These strategic investments allow SSF to pursue its core mission with renewed confidence and agility, focusing on sustainability rather than survival.

My Why

I’m often asked what keeps me going. The answer is simple: I remember where I came from.

I was once that child without access, without options. Now I have the privilege—and the responsibility—to open doors for others. SSF keeps me grounded in the values that matter most: dignity, equity, and the belief that we rise by lifting others.
